About the Founders

The founders of Varsity Outreach have been involved in helping students navigate the college admission process for over 6 years. They've worked with top brands (Washington Post, USA Today, Discover, Kaplan) and state organizations (New Hampshire Higher Education Association, Iowa College Student Aid Commission), powering college-related content and tools on their websites. They are experts in building engaging, high-quality online resources for college-bound teenagers.

Mark Rothbaum

Mark is a veteran in the college admissions industry. He co-founded College Toolkit in 2002 and built it into one of the most comprehensive sites for college-bound students. College Toolkit was one of the first websites to deploy a college-related Facebook Application, allowing students to access 4,000+ college profiles without ever leaving Facebook.

Mark is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He grudgingly admits that his parents were right to drag him on an East Coast college tour so he could actually see schools' campuses.

Jon Rothbaum

Jon co-founded College Toolkit in 2002, serving as the lead developer for the site. Jon began programming Facebook Applications within weeks of its release. He developed a quiz engine, allowing users to test their knowledge of college mascots, college alumni, and more.

Jon is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. He spent two years in the Peace Corps and can now make a pot out of only wire... if given the time.
